Post 77: Liga de Quito v. Olmedo (0-0 result)

Fellow lovers of footy,

Last night we ended up meeting up with Doug and Islay around 8 and going to a local square for drinks. We went to a pretty pricey place to start with but then ended up randomly finding a football themed bar down the street selling 3 liter tall funnels of beer for only 12 bucks! We ordered two of them before the night ended and had a great time hanging out. We stumbled back to our hotel around 2 in the morning and had to bang on the door for almost 20 minutes before being let in, not something we delighted in as we have been warned by the establishment never to be on dark streets alone, and especially after dark.

I woke up with quite a headache from the festivities of last night. We eventually made our way over to our new friends hotel to meet with them and head to the game. We found a driver willing to take us for only 7 bucks. We had a little apprehension after our last experience viewing football, but when we arrived we bought tickets without hassle and made our way into the Casa Blanca (The White House as it is called). No hassle or police escorts this time.

We were way early but had the chance to watch another game being played before the feature match. I believe it was the under-20s squad for each team, but could be mistaken. The match itself was a bit slow, and full of sloppy play by each of the teams. We found more delight in watching the crowd during certain segments of the match. The home team seemed to lack in will to win, or even push the ball. Regardless of the slow play, lack of scoring, and lackluster play, it was still an enjoyable experience.

I could be wrong, but I believe this is our last opportunity to see any football until we make it to Buenos Aires. I have had my fill for now.

Isn't it cooler in Quito compared to where you were in Venezuela and Colombia? You guys look more bundled up than in past photos. Quito, and upcoming ventures, are at higher altitudes, no? Maybe that's why it's cooler?

Gabby,
Quito is 9,200 ft above sea level, so the days & nights are pretty cool.
