Post 18: route determined, timetable established

Fellow adventurers,

Our route is officially determined, and thus the real planning of logistics and money begin. Since planning the logistics of planning all 4+ months would be impossible, we will need to keep on track of our time and budget. We have set up a few time "check points" to help us accomplish that, leaving plenty of time for travel in between. This will give us freedom to change our plans, and adjust to unexpected delays. Another perk of this will be ability to meet up with friends who are looking to join us along the way.

The checkpoints are as follows:
  • Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador - through to Quito, Ecuador by December 1st
  • Ecuador, Peru - into Southern Bolivia by January 1st, exiting Solar de Uyuni no later than Jan. 4th.
  • Chile, Patagonia, and Tierra Del Fuego - arriving in Buenos Aires by February 1st. We will be booking our flight to B.A. from Ushuaia in August, along with our other flights.
  • Belem, Brazil by February 26th at the latest, to get us down the river with a little time before our departure back to the United States.
Money will be easy, as our main expense will really only be transportation. Since we now know where we are going, we can establish the length of each leg of travel and its cost. Other expenditure will include visas and vaccinations (yellow fever), as well as check ups before we depart in November, and possibly some light supplies. Being in good health is essential for a good journey, as is preparation.

I will be posting a more complete timetable in the days to come. Beyond that, in the future, I am looking to further expand this blog into the realm of audio, video and other media as well. I think this will be more time effective and thought provoking while we are on the road. I will not be limiting our record solely to that however and look forward to putting many forms of content on this log of our adventure.
